Municipality

The center of Saint-Cergue is located 11 km as the crow flies from Nyon, the district capital. The surface area of the communal territory is 2 426 ha. The communal territory is located on the road to the Col de La Givrine on a section of the Haut Jura Vaudois. In 2000, 6 % of the territory was building land and 65 % was forest  28 % was agricultural land and 1 % was unproductive land. Saint-Cergue's neighboring communes are Arzier-Le-Muids, Givrins, Trélex and Gingins in the canton of Vaud, as well as Les Rousses in neighboring France. This small winter sports resort at the foot of La Dôle and La Barillette has just over 2,500 inhabitants. In the heart of the Parc naturel du Jura Vaudois, Saint-Cergue is the ideal base for nature sports in summer and winter alike. Its proximity to the French border on the one hand and to the town of Nyon on the other, with which it shares a convenient train line, make it an ideal accessible family resort. Many walks and hikes are available around Saint-Cergue providing access to superb panoramas, typical Jura pastures and Swiss alpine chalets renowned notably for the production of Gruyère AOP.Saint-Cergue is also a stopover town on the Échappée Jurassienne, the Franco-Swiss Jura hiking trail that crosses the cross-border Jura massif from west to east for almost 350km.
