Specialities
Towards the end of the 18th century, Jean-Paul Demierre purchased this property, formerly owned by a Geneva cooper. His son, Ami Demierre, subsequently built the tower at the entrance to the property, now covered in ivy. This tower is a replica of the Tour de Champel, as Ami Demierre used materials left over from the latter's construction. When, at the end of the 19th century, the Scotsman Charles Floods bought the property, returning from Egypt after having made his fortune there, he decided to preserve the tower. He then commissioned architects Bourrit and Simmler to build a château combining Gothic and Oriental styles, between 1883 and 1884, which he named El Masr, meaning "the Egyptian".
